The holidays are here, and like every day, it’s good to reflect on what we’re thankful for.
Vacations with dogs are at the top of our list because they are our friends, teachers and family in a furry bundle of love. They have the ability to enhance our lives in ways no one else can.
The past twelve months may have had more than their share of difficulties and triumphs, but our dogs have been there for it all.
As we look forward to a new year full of opportunity and change, let’s also remember why our canine friends are so great!
We lucky dog parents have a lot to be thankful for….
Here is some of what they have done to brighten our lives, through thick and thin.
1. A great, affordable psychiatrist for every day of their lives.
On those days when you have to come home and vent about your frustrating job and failing love life, your dog will sit patiently next to you and willingly listen to your woes while licking away your tears.
2. They keep you healthy – both physically and mentally.
They will motivate you to run the extra mile, no matter how exhausted you are. They will also make you laugh and enjoy everything much more, which will totally boost your self-esteem and overall outlook on life.
3.They will bring you out of your shell.
When you’re out and about with your pup, you’re bound to meet strangers who will adore your fluffy companion. You can be the most introverted, antisocial person in the world, but your adorable dog – and their admiration – can bring you out of your shell and give you a chance to practice your conversation skills. And if there are no worthy humans nearby? They’ll help you connect with the world around you.
4. They remind us to enjoy the simple things.
With full exuberance, they happily jump into piles of leaves and chase their own tails incessantly. Doing all this with a goofy grin is what makes dogs so unique. We too need to let go sometimes and let our inner puppy come out!
5. They show us the true meaning of unconditional love.
Whether you forgot to pick them up from doggy daycare or lost your temper, they look at you with those big brown eyes and forgive you instantly. It’s a gift that dogs are able to forgive and forget with a wag of their tail.
6.They are the best bodyguards.
From beginning to end, you have a bodyguard for life. Your safety and happiness are top priorities for your pup, and it’s a great feeling to know that someone always has your back.
7. They are always up for an adventure.
Even if you were to run off at that moment, your pup wouldn’t hesitate to go with you. There is no need to complain or get distracted by the “what if” questions. After all, the destination and purpose is really just a distant thought as long as you are there!
8. They don’t mind if you sing off-key.
Your friends are always telling you to be quiet, and the thought of karaoke makes your palms sweat. But don’t worry, because your dog won’t criticize you like you’re on American Idol. Better yet, he’ll howl along and sing a duet with you.
9.They are the most effective alarm clocks.
Forget about those pesky alarms you set on your phone and rely on your cute pooch to drool in your face at the crack of dawn. There’s nothing like morning kisses to get you up and going!
10, You can never really be mad at them.
Seriously, what kind of magical power do dogs have that they can erase any negativity from those eyes with one sincere look? It’s almost pointless to get upset about anything they do.
11. you don’t have to impress them.
It doesn’t matter what job you have, what car you drive, or how much you make a year. Bad hair days don’t exist for them. They don’t care about makeup or your outfit. They also don’t mind a little extra padding on your body or the thin bony bits. All your dog wants is your time, love and presence!
12. you are a good sport.
You wear ridiculous holiday outfits? Checked off. Try the homemade dog cookies you’ve never tried before? Done. They allow you to post silly pictures of them on Instagram? Checked.
Thirteen, you’re the best thing that ever happened to them.
And they’ll show it, too. With all the cuddles, kisses, and excitement, you’ll always be sure that there’s nothing better for your dog than you.
14. they love you. Just the way you are.
No explanation needed, no questions asked; you are enough for this dog and don’t forget it!
